Rally Caps are for baseball General Motors becomes a huge embarrassment
Normally I don’t pay too much attention to television commercials unless they are funny. However, recently while zipping through the stations I found a baseball game to take in. While in between innings there was a new commercial from General Motors.
The commercial is their plea to the people of America to “put on your rally caps” and buy new cars with their new buying program.
For those of you who don’t know, it is a baseball tradition aka superstition where the fans and sometimes the team will turn their baseball caps inside out and wear them to spark a rally to win the game. Trust me, as a Cincinnati Reds fan, I know this tradition all too well.
Now back to the GM commercial. It is totally “hooray for America” crap with green grass, happy families, and boys playing little league baseball and all the stereotypical trimmings to make you think that this country is the best ever. And of course most of the people in this cheese ball advertisement are wearing… yep you guessed it, a rally hat.
General Motors is sucking the proverbial dick of American’s to get you to buy a car. The man detailing the commercial is telling us we should rally together and make a big comeback as Americans. But before that happens, guess what? You have to buy a new GM car with their new payment protection plans, financing, and warranties.
If you ask me, it sounds more like they are trying to rally themselves, not the American citizen, with their semi threatening sales pitch.
Fuck you GM, instead of sucking us off with paper thin promises, why don’t you go stand in the unemployment line like all the hundreds of thousands unemployed Americans who are struggling and who didn’t get a bailout mind you.
This just goes to show how out of touch and egotistical this company is. Do you think buying a shiny SVU, one which they can’t really afford, will rally this country? Wasn’t that part of the reason GM got their ass in a sling for in the first place?
For my entire life, myself and my family has bought General Motors cars, but never again. They will never get a dime from me. As an American citizen this is embarrassing to me. I can imagine the comments and laughter coming from the import car companies right about now. And frankly I am starting to laugh right along with them.
