Be In Love

(Self-Released)

Locksley is not a complicated band. No, this is a group who obviously embraces catchy, pop-music without too much weight to their material. Not that that's a bad thing, hardly. Is this music disposable? Sure, but if you're looking for something catchy to nod your head to for a bit, then what's there to complain about? On Locksley's sohphomore album, Be In Love, the subject matter is apparent, "Love is awesome, duh," and the hooks are plentiful.

The sound of feedback is overheard and then "Love You Too" gets the album off to a frolicking start with fast guitars, infectious melodies and an overall fun vibe. "Darling, It's True" and "One More Minute" are also excellent follow up tracks which keep the care-free atmosphere of Be In Love chugging along.

The album can begin to lull in spots when it seems that the band is more interested in attempting to craft a more daring tune instead of just focusing on how awesome love is. This is bubblegum pop plain and simple. There's a reason why Locksley became such big hits on Myspace. This isn't a band whose lyrics need to be studied, (remember: love = awesome), this is the sort of fun pop rock you can just tune in and turn your brain off while listening to.

Locksley have done their research and understand how to craft harmless, enjoyable pop songs that aren't going to win the band any awards, but will probably guarantee them some new Myspace friends. Years from now, they can put out the groundbreaking album that no one saw coming.

Be In Love isn't consistently catchy, but its bright spots highlight a band that doesn't take itself seriously, knows how to have fun, and is totally all about love, man.

These Canadians are a hard band to pinpoint, but that is also the reason they are so damn fun to listen to.
Every town should have, assuming that it is a place worth living, a band like the Soul Movers. It makes for a great night out. Real music performed in bars for real people with real beer.
Ari Up and Tessa Pollitt are back with a band whose ingredients — punk, reggae, hip hop, and even middle eastern music — have had enough time to blend, ferment, and become spicy, pungent, and tasty.
The Chicago-based post-rock unit Russian Circles is a three-piece group known for their instrumental approach to post-hardcore/post-melodic.
A friend asked me to describe The Prairie Cartel’s sound to him, and the first thing to come to mind was “electronic rock you could dance to while punching someone in the face.”
